Bass Lake Campsite

The Bass Lake campsite is located on the western shore of the enormous 290-acre Bass Lake in the Hiawatha National Forest, nestled among hardwoods. The site is approximately 35 by 50 feet and suitable for only one small family trailer, with a maximum of eight people. There are no toilets and no drinking water. Swimming is considered poor at the campsite, but Bass Lake hosts a great fishery of northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass and bluegills; a license is required for fishing in Michigan waters. Berry picking is another draw. There is no back-in boat access at the campsite, and carry-in access is for site users only. A developed public boat launch is located on the eastern shore off Forest Road 2633, approximately four miles from the campsite. Horse, bike and hiking trails are within minutes, and nearby visitors can expect to find bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak and canoe rentals. Gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, boat rentals, ice and Michigan DNR licenses are available at Steuben, approximately three miles to the northeast on County Road 437.
