Birch Grove Recreation Area is a family favorite if you are looking for a base camp to explore the Bayfield Peninsula. Nestled between East and West Twin Lakes and conveniently located 8 miles west of Washburn, it is the place for you if you like to boat, fish and camp. Both campground lakes have a small boat access, and there are areas where campers can reach the lake for swimming. During the late summer, berry picking is a popular activity in the nearby Moquah Barrens. Long Lake Recreation Area is close by with a swimming beach, a trail and carry-in boat access, and Valhalla Recreation Area has more than 20 miles of hiking and biking trails during the summer months. The campground offers 16 single-family campsites for tent or RV camping. Each has a defined parking spur, fire ring and picnic table; some have a tent pad, and sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet. There are two double sites next to each other. Drinking water, vault toilets and a small picnic area are available, along with a new open-sided pavilion for use by paying campers. The campground is situated between 22-acre East Twin Lake and 16-acre West Twin Lake, which contain bass, panfish and northern pike.
