Camp Cook Campsite

Once the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, Camp Cook is a single campsite in the rustic forest environment of the Hiawatha National Forest that can be taken singly or as a group. It is situated on a large grassy opening, which makes it particularly well suited for large gatherings, and it holds up to 24 people. A toilet is available. The site is located adjacent to the Fishdam River, which provides a great fishing opportunity for brook trout and makes it popular among anglers; a license is required for fishing in Michigan waters. Berry picking is another draw. This site does not offer swimming, but there is an excellent beach area at Camp 7 Lake Campground only two miles away. Horse, bike and hiking trails are within minutes. Within about 15 miles, visitors can expect to find bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak and canoe rentals. Groceries, gasoline, fishing and camping supplies, ice and a deli are available nine miles northeast on County Road 437 in the Thunder Lake area.
