CCC Campground (ND)

Hosted by USDA Forest Service

New listing

CCC Campground lies in the Badlands of North Dakota, surrounded by colorful buttes. There are 22 sites across 3 campground loops, and a few trails are located here. The Little Missouri River runs along the northern part of the campground. The Maah Daah Hey Trail runs 150 miles and ends at Burning Coal Vein Campground. The Sunset Loop is a short 2-mile hike that connects the Maah Daah Hey Trail and the Long X Trail. If you are looking for a day hike, there is an 11-mile loop from the Maah Daah Hey Trail to the Long X Trail, where you will see dramatic views of the badlands and prairies of western North Dakota. There are 5 vault toilets, and water is available at several spigots throughout the campground from Memorial Day to Labor Day, depending on the severity of the weather. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with grill, and parking pads run up to 60 feet long. Horses are allowed in the equestrian loop. During your stay you may have pronghorn and mule and white-tailed deer going through your site, and on rare occasions bighorn sheep can be seen grazing in the area. This area is great for birders and plant enthusiasts during the spring and summer months, and is perfect all year for the outdoor adventurer. Right across the river is Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and Watford City is a 15-minute drive north on Highway 85 for any supplies that you may need.
