Damsite Texas

Hosted by US Army Corps of Engineers

New listing

Damsite Texas is a relatively small campground with 19 campsites, all of which have water and 30 amp electric hookups. It is located right along the Red River, which gives easy access to popular outdoor activities like fishing. Most of the campsites are covered by pecan trees, which allows for great shade during the summertime. Before the entrance to the campground you will find multiple picnic tables and a pavilion available for the day, so visitors can spend time along the Red River and enjoy the scenery without staying overnight. Vault toilets are located in the area, a dump station sits along the Red River, and restaurants and stores are available within 5 miles. Lake Texoma is just on the other side of the Denison Dam, a large reservoir with an excellent fishery and many access points. Boating, swimming, water skiing, hunting, birding, and relaxing on the sandy beaches are the typical pursuits of most visitors. The lake is known as the "Striper Capital of the World," one of the few reservoirs in the nation where striped bass reproduce naturally; other popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white and black crappie, and channel and blue catfish. If you bring a boat, there is a popular spillway boat ramp area at the Denison Dam. Many visitors also fish the Red River itself, catching striped bass, blue catfish, channel catfish, alligator gar, and occasionally American paddlefish. The campground sits on the Texas side of the Red River by the Denison Dam. Deer, turkeys, bobcats, hawks, waterfowl, and songbirds are abundant around the river. Lake Texoma features two wildlife refuges, two state parks, and 23 commercial concession areas dedicated to the enjoyment of over six million visitors annually.
