Jackpine Lake Campsites

Hosted by USDA Forest Service

New listing

Two campsites are located on the 63-acre Jackpine Lake in the rustic forest environment of the Hiawatha National Forest. Site 1 sits in an open area on top of a small hill overlooking the south side of the lake; it is 45 by 40 feet, reached by a short but steep road, and suitable for two families with trailers and up to 16 people. Site 2 is small and wooded on the west side of the lake, 30 by 20 feet, suitable for one family and up to eight people, with trailers not recommended because of limited turn-around space. Swimming conditions are decent at both sites, sandy and shallow. Jackpine Lake is a great fishery for smallmouth bass and bluegills, with some large yellow perch and bullheads present as well; a license is required for fishing in Michigan waters. Berry picking is another draw. An unimproved boat access is located on the south side of the lake near site 1, suitable for small, lightweight craft only and intended for day use. The access road leading to it is firm sand with some gravel, and parking space is limited. There is no drinking water at these campsites, but primitive toilets are located at both sites. Horse, bike and hiking trails are within minutes, and nearby visitors can expect to find bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak and canoe rentals. Gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, ice and a deli are available in the Thunder Lake area on County Road 437, approximately seven miles to the southeast.
