Lake Nineteen Campsite

Like its neighbor Ironjaw Lake to the west, the 26-acre Lake Nineteen is located in the heart of the Ironjaw Semi-Primitive Area, which is managed for both motorized and non-motorized uses, with management efforts aimed at quiet, peaceful recreation in a semi-primitive setting. The single campsite is on the eastern shore and holds up to eight people. There is no toilet and no drinking water. The site can be reached by boat, by foot, or by horseback from the Pine Marten Run Trail, approximately 2.5 miles from the Pine Marten Run Middle Trailhead. Unfortunately, the swimming area at this site is of poor condition. Lake Nineteen has been stocked with rainbow trout, and berry picking is another draw; a license is required for fishing in Michigan waters. The boat access, on the west side of the lake by the Ironjaw site, is steep but the road is firm. There is no turn-around at the base of the hill, so trailers must be backed down to the lake, and parking is restricted to a small area at the top. Horse, bike and hiking trails are within minutes of the campsite, and nearby visitors can expect to find bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak and canoe rentals. Groceries, gasoline, fishing and camping supplies, boat rentals, ice, Michigan DNR licenses, a deli and restaurants are available on Forest Highway 13, approximately six miles to the west and north.
