Mowe Lake Campsites

New listing

Two campsites sit on the 25-acre Mowe Lake in the rustic forest environment of the Hiawatha National Forest. Site 1 is in a semi-open area bordered by hardwood trees, 60 by 40 feet, and suitable for one family and trailer. Site 2 is similar in layout but slightly smaller, also suited to one family and trailer. Each site holds up to eight people, a primitive toilet is shared by both, and there is no drinking water. The access road is narrow but capable of handling moderate-sized vehicles and trailers. Visitors can enjoy swimming, berry picking and fishing. Mowe Lake is a good fishery for northern pike, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch, and surveys indicate a good, healthy fishery; a license is required for fishing in Michigan waters. An unimproved carry-in access is located across from site 2, with a sand base recommended for small boats and trailers only. Horse, bike and hiking trails are within minutes of the campsites, and nearby visitors can expect to find bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak and canoe rentals. Gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, boat rentals, ice, Michigan DNR licenses, a deli and restaurants are available approximately six miles northwest on Forest Highway 13.
