Hosted by US Army Corps of Engineers
New listing
The Overlook Shelter sits near the Brookville Lake Dam and the Visitor Center, and visitors come for the breathtaking view of the lake and the dam; the view from the shelter is one of the best in the state of Indiana. A short walk on the Overlook Trail leads to the Brookville Lake Visitor Center, which offers exhibits, history, and information about the lake and the Corps missions in the Ohio Valley. This is a day use area only, with no camping allowed, and parking is limited to 76 spaces. The shelter has electric plug-ins, a water spigot and fountain, and two cooking grills, with a modern restroom and a popular playground nearby. The Overlook Pavilion can also be reserved for special events such as weddings by purchasing a Special Activity Permit, which costs $50. Brookville Lake offers excellent boating, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking, and canoeing, kayaking, and rafting are popular on the Whitewater River located directly below the dam. Other opportunities around the lake include 51 miles of hiking, swimming, camping, fishing, hunting, cabin and boat rentals, gun and archery ranges, and horseback riding. Brookville's recreation facilities include beaches, boat ramps, campgrounds, fishing piers, an 18-hole golf course, lodging, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, restaurants, and tailwater trout fishing.
