Pyramid Ridge Campground

Pyramid Ridge Campground sits at just over 6,000 feet above sea level and looks out to a backdrop of the red rock pyramids along the Hurricane Cliffs. It gives visitors a remote, backcountry feel while being only a few minutes' drive from I-15 and the amenities of town, 3.4 miles outside the south end of Cedar City, Utah. Nestled into the base of the mountain, the campground gets its name from the geologic features that tower above it. Large sandstone monoliths emerge out of the mountain in multiple locations, adding beautiful red, orange and yellow contrast to the green pinyon-juniper forest that blankets the mountain side. Temperatures typically remain cool in the spring and late fall, with lows approaching or below freezing; summer highs often reach 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit. The campground also serves as one of the trailheads to the Iron Hills Trail System. The Turnpike Trail leads straight out of the campground and provides bikers, hikers, trail runners and more with access to almost 30 miles of singletrack. Almost all of these trails have been professionally constructed, and they have played a big role in Cedar City emerging as a premier mountain biking destination. No matter which one of the 14 sites you choose from, you can access the Turnpike Trail from your campsite. Each campsite has in-site parking, a large picnic table, a fire ring with optional grate for grilling, and at least one tent pad. Select sites contain parking spots to hold a large RV or camper or multiple vehicles, and have multiple tent pads. There is no water available at the campground, but visitors can find water and other amenities in town just a few minutes away. The trailhead contains a bicycle repair station as well as the campground's restroom. Well known as "Festival Town USA," Cedar City almost always has something going on — the Southern Utah Museum of Art, Frontier Homestead State Park, and at certain times of year the world famous Shakespeare Festival. Zion National Park is only one hour away, and Bryce Canyon National Park just over a 1.5 hour drive.
