Moraine Park Campground is located on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park, overlooking Moraine Park. To reach it, enter the park via the Beaver Meadows, Fall River or Grand Lake Entrances, follow signs to Bear Lake Road, drive up it approximately 2 miles and turn left onto Moraine Park Campground Road. During the summer camping season, all campsites are available by reservation only and can be reserved via Recreation.gov. A Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservation is included with an overnight camping reservation. In Rocky Mountain National Park there is a 7-night limit across all campgrounds during the summer season. There is something for everyone to enjoy in the park. Over 350 miles of hiking trails range from flat lakeside strolls to steep mountain climbs, and there are excellent opportunities for fishing, bird watching and wildlife viewing — elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, many small mammals and more. Three distinct life zones meet here, the montane, subalpine, and alpine, with over a third of the park in alpine tundra, and scenic drives run along Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road. Ranger-led walks, talks and programs are available all summer long. The campground has campsites for tents and RVs, and can accommodate up to a 40-foot-long RV or a trailer and tow vehicle; many campsites are designed for tents or vans only, so check the details for each site. 49 campsites have electric hookups supporting 20, 30 or 50 amps, most of them in loops B and C; the rest are standard non-electric sites, and water and sewer hookups are not available. There are also a number of walk-in tent sites throughout the campground. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grate, and a food storage box. All tent sites have a designated tent pad — tents must be set up on the tent pad or parking area, not on vegetation — and some campsites designed for RVs do not have a tent pad. The roads inside the campground are paved, and campsites have either dirt parking spaces or concrete parking pads. Flush toilets and drinking water are available. Two solar shower facilities are inside the campground, but campers must provide their own solar shower bags, as water is not available in the shower stalls. A shuttle stop inside the campground serves the park's free shuttle bus, which provides easy access to many trailheads and scenic destinations along the Bear Lake Road Corridor, and an outdoor amphitheater near the entrance to Loop C hosts free campground programs throughout the season. A pleasant mix of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine and the occasional Engelmann spruce forests the campground, offering partial shade in this open area, while grasses, shrubs and seasonal wildflowers fill the open meadows. Mule deer and the majestic Rocky Mountain elk are the most commonly seen wildlife; black bear, coyote, bighorn sheep and moose inhabit the region as well but can be harder to stumble upon. The campground has recently been re-seeded after construction — this hydroseeding looks similar to fine straw, and visitors are asked to protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of them. The town of Estes Park is a short drive away, with dining, shopping, rafting, fly fishing, horseback riding and golfing, and Lake Estes offers boating and fishing.
