Rocky Mountain National Park Timber Creek Campground

Timber Creek is the only campground on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. It is accessed via Trail Ridge Road/U.S. Highway 34, eight miles (13 km) north of the park's Grand Lake Entrance, at an elevation of 8,900 feet (3000 m). All campsites are available by reservation only; for some campsites, reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance on a rolling window, while others open 2 weeks or 1 week prior to the desired camping date. Camping in a trailer or RV? The campground has a total vehicle length limit of 30 feet (9 m); RVs and combined vehicles and trailers that exceed this limit cannot stay at Timber Creek. Trail Ridge Road is a seasonal road that can temporarily close based on weather at any time, so check its status before entering the park from the east side. Campers planning to visit destinations along the Bear Lake Road Corridor will need a separate Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservation, or will need to enter that corridor during a time of day when reservations are not required. Rocky Mountain National Park has over 350 miles (563 km) of hiking trails, and there are many wonderful trails to explore on the west side, including the Colorado River Trail, Coyote Valley Trail and Green Mountain Trail. Enjoy fishing along the banks of the Colorado River, scenic driving on Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road, wildlife viewing in the alpine tundra, and ranger-led programs and exhibits at Alpine Visitor Center. Take a step back in time at the Holzwarth Historic Site, just down the road from the campground. Timber Creek has single family tent sites, walk-to sites, and RV sites (30 ft/9 m or smaller) without hookups; there are no group campsites. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grate and tent pad. During the summer season, potable water and restroom facilities are available, and the campground has dish sinks for washing dishes. A freshwater fill and dump station for trailers and RVs is available in the campground, and dumpsters, recycling bins and propane recycling are scattered throughout. Visitors can enjoy wildflowers in June and July in the surrounding meadows, among a mix of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine and ponderosa pine. Wildlife is plentiful: mule deer and elk are commonly seen, while black bear, coyote, bighorn sheep and moose also inhabit the area but are less common. The town of Grand Lake, Colorado is 10 miles south of the campground (2 miles south of the park's west entrance) and offers dining, shopping, grocery and other recreational activities.
