Rocky Peak Campground

New listing

Rocky Peak Campground is located within Three Peaks Recreation Area, one of the largest designated recreation areas in Cedar City, Utah. Three Peaks was designated a Special Recreation Management Area in 2006; what previously existed as a local open space playground has since been developed into a recreation area to meet the needs of almost any outdoor enthusiast, including hikers, bikers, equestrians, off-highway vehicle users and remote control car drivers. The site is located 10 miles outside of town at 5,938 feet elevation and sees weather similar to that in Cedar City. Visitors can expect cool temperatures in spring and fall, with lows during those seasons approaching or below freezing, while summer highs often reach the range of 90 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The campground sits within a small pinyon-juniper forest, and many of the campsites provide shade. Mountain bike and hiking trails can be accessed from the campground. Three Peaks Recreation Area also contains an equestrian trailhead, an off-highway vehicle trailhead, a paintball complex, a shooting range, a remote controlled car track, two disc golf courses and a model airplane runway. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring with grill grate, and is in close proximity to a vault toilet. There is no drinking water or electric hookup in the campground, but drinking water can be found at the nearby trailheads. Group campsites have three picnic tables, an oversized fire ring, charcoal grills and a pavilion. Ancient volcanic activity has shaped the surrounding area's rocky terrain into what it is today, and granite boulders are mixed into the patches of pinyon and juniper throughout the campground. Many sites offer views of the Hurricane Cliffs range that rise above Cedar City. Cedar City itself, well known as "Festival Town USA," almost always has something happening, from the Southern Utah Museum of Art and Frontier Homestead State Park to the world famous Shakespeare Festival; the campground is just over an hour from Zion National Park and just over an hour and a half from Bryce Canyon National Park.
