Russell-Colbath Barn

The barn is a timber-frame building with unpainted vertical board siding and a broad gabled metal roof, with open shed bays running the length of both long sides. Large sliding doors braced in an X pattern fill the centre of the gable end, and a band of small windows runs above them. Packed gravel wraps around the building and a gravel drive leads past it to an older grey clapboard house standing farther along the clearing. It sits in an opening of mown grass and rougher meadow, with tall grass and oxeye daisies at the edges, split-rail fencing across the foreground and a low stone wall along one side. Dense pine and mixed forest closes in behind the clearing on every side. Inside, the exposed timber frame rises above pine-panelled walls hung with enlarged historic black-and-white photographs; one view shows the floor set with rows of folding chairs facing a table at the front. The site lies in the White Mountain National Forest near Conway, New Hampshire, on land managed by the USDA Forest Service, and is recorded as a historic and cultural site with interpretive programs, camping, fishing and wildlife viewing among its listed activities.
