Sedalia Campground (SC)

Sedalia Campground sits in the piedmont of South Carolina in Union County, on the Enoree Ranger District of the Sumter National Forest, and provides year-round camping. The campground is surrounded by a mixed pine-hardwood forest at an elevation of approximately 570 feet. Long hot summers and mild winters are the norm here: winter temperatures range from the low 40s to the upper 60s and summer temperatures from the muggy high 80s to the high 90s. Sedalia offers five year-round primitive campsites and an additional seven seasonal campsites during big game deer and turkey seasons, and it is also a trailhead access point for the Enoree Passage of the Palmetto Trail. This is a rustic, primitive camp setting ideal for exploring the surrounding acres of the Enoree Ranger District. The surrounding forest sustains abundant wildlife populations, making it one of the most desirable hunting areas in the state during big-game deer and turkey seasons, with thousands of acres surrounding the campground. Hunting and fishing in South Carolina are regulated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The campground's central location between the Enoree and Tyger Rivers makes for good boating, fishing, or just splashing around to cool down. Take care: water levels fluctuate with the rainfall and the rivers have a slight current, and during late summer months the rivers become impassable. The Enoree Passage of the Palmetto Trail, part of the statewide mountains-to-the-sea trail that traverses South Carolina, offers easy to moderate hiking across the district. The campground has one vault toilet, rock fire rings, a trash receptacle and one water spigot near the entrance. It doesn't provide picnic tables, electricity, hookups or wifi, and cell coverage is sporadic. Campsites are shady grassy areas with a rock fire ring; they vary in size, but many will accommodate most any size of RV, trailer or tent. A minimum of one person and a maximum of eight are allowed per site, with at most two vehicles plus two campers, or two tents, or one camper and one tent, if the site will accommodate them; many sites will only take one vehicle with one camper. Golf carts are not allowed. Sedalia features rolling terrain and mixed forests in its vicinity. The Tyger River runs across the landscape about a mile north, with the Enoree River running to the south. Three man-made lakes combine to make up the Johns Creek Lake Complex just southwest of the campground, offering fishing, hiking and boating with a trolling motor only; bring your own equipment. The Tyger River has several access points for watercraft, the nearest of which is the Minnow Bridge Road access a few miles down the road. The Union County Historical Museum and the Cross Keys House are also nearby, and the Olde English Tourism District covers upcoming events, restaurants, artists and farmers markets in surrounding Union County.
