Hosted by USDA Forest Service
New listing
Six Mile Gap Campground is 2 miles off Highway 230, set in a saddle above the North Platte River, and provides access to the river and the Platte River Wilderness Area. Elevation is 7,606 feet. There are 6 sites plus 3 pull-thru sites, with a maximum trailer length of 30 feet. Amenities are picnic tables, bear canisters for food storage, vault toilets, potable water and fire grates. There is no trash service at this location, so pack it in, pack it out. There is no camp host on site. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under control at all times. Check with the Brush Creek Hayden Ranger Station before you arrive to find out whether campfires are allowed, as fire restrictions and bans can go into effect at any given time. Floating is popular on the North Platte River, and a separate parking area is available for hikers and river floaters. The Platte River Trail is the hiking trail here. The North Platte is classified as a blue-ribbon trout stream by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, with brook, brown and rainbow trout; special fishing regulations apply upstream of Saratoga, Wyoming. Douglas Creek also offers good fishing opportunities. All watercraft except inflatables 10 feet or less in length must have a valid Wyoming Aquatic Invasive Species decal. The Snowy Range rises from sagebrush and lodgepole pine forests in lower elevations to spruce-fir forests and alpine areas in the high country. The area offers views of rugged peaks over 12,000 feet, gorgeous snow-melt lakes and stunning displays of native wildflowers.
