Slyder Farmhouse

The Slyder Farmhouse is an exceptional year-round place to stay, located within Gettysburg National Military Park, where it witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg. Beautifully restored and updated in 2024, the house is set back from the roadways and nestled among famous landmarks like Little Round Top and Devil's Den, near the historic town of Gettysburg. The farmhouse offers a large loft bedroom with 1 queen bed and 1 queen murphy bed, 1 bathroom, a fully-equipped and updated eat-in kitchen with dishes, utensils, Keurig coffee maker, stove, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator, and a sitting room. Central heating and air conditioning provide comfort year-round. Bed linens, sheets, pillows, and a limited supply of towels are available, and dish soap and dishwasher detergent are provided. A keyless access code is provided prior to scheduled arrival. There are numerous ways to experience the battlefield: self-guided auto tours, licensed battlefield guided tours, and easy paved walking trails as well as unpaved ones to explore and hike, with trails in close proximity to the home. At the park's visitor center, visitors can marvel at the Gettysburg cyclorama painting and original artifacts, or find their own Civil War ancestors, and a variety of ranger-led programs are offered throughout the day. Eisenhower National Historic Site, the only home ever owned by the 34th president, is about five minutes away. The 6,000 acre Gettysburg National Military Park comprises a mosaic of pastoral landscapes and forested knolls, with pockets of dispersed wetland and intermittent streams, and woodlots of mature oak and hickory. Springtime brings a variety of wildflowers such as bluebells and violets that cover the landscape with color. From summer to fall, the field and forest floors come to life with the many species of aster and goldenrod found in the park. Black-eyed susan is abundant throughout, and visitors can also see cardinal flowers, a favorite of hummingbirds, distinguishable by their bright scarlet flower. The park is also home to numerous birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Within a short drive, visitors can explore the town of Gettysburg with even more historic sites, quaint shops, and restaurants to please every palate. Throughout Adams County there are wineries, cider makers, cultural and music festivals, covered bridges, antiques, crafts, and farmers' markets brimming with local apples and other fresh produce. Hershey, Pennsylvania, home to Chocolate World and Hershey Park, is about 45 minutes away, and Lancaster and Pennsylvania Dutch country are just 35 minutes beyond that.
