Steamboat Falls Campground

Hosted by USDA Forest Service

New listing

This campground offers excellent scenery. Towering fir trees shade the nine campsites, which sit on the opposite side of Steamboat Creek from Steamboat Creek Road, and in the summer months many enjoy swimming at the falls. Steamboat Creek is closed to all fishing, but summer visitors often see large steelhead trout attempting to jump the falls during their spawning runs. Fly fishing is on the North Umpqua River, and hiking, non-motorized boating and scenic views round out the recreation. The trailhead for the 5.5-mile Mott segment of the North Umpqua Trail is about 6 miles southwest of the campground. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and there are vault toilets and a day use area. The campground is open year-round, first come, first serve. Nearby are the North Umpqua Trail #1414, Steamboat Falls, the Steamboat Fish Viewing Site and the Wild & Scenic North Umpqua River. The Umpqua National Forest covers 983,239 acres of southwestern Oregon, where hemlock, fir and cedar give way to mixed conifers and hardwoods at lower elevations and alpine ecosystems hold the high peaks. The word Umpqua means thundering waters.
