Three Ridges Wilderness

Three Ridges Wilderness lies east of the Blue Ridge Parkway and north of the Tye River, in Nelson County in west central Virginia. Elevations range from 1,000 feet at the Tye River to 4,000 feet at Three Ridges. The area is generally very steep and rugged, consisting of undulating ridges with deep V-shaped hollows. Large rock outcrops are common, and the scenery is spectacular. Several old home sites within the Wilderness are gradually being reclaimed by nature. There are 11 miles of trail in total, eight of them the Appalachian National Scenic Trail running through this very rugged terrain. Designated in 2000 and managed by the U.S. Forest Service as part of the Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger Districts of the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
