Towers Arm Cabin

Towers Arm Cabin is one of the Petersburg Ranger District's most remote cabins, accessible by boat or float plane only. It stands on Kupreanof Island at the mouth of Towers Creek, on the west side of Towers Arm in Duncan Canal. Terrain surrounding the cabin is fairly flat, with hills at the rear and a vast tidal flat and the water's edge to the front. The large tidal flat in front of the cabin provides excellent waterfowl viewing and hunting. Towers Creek holds coho salmon from August through September and steelhead trout from April through May. Hunting for bears, deer, waterfowl and grouse is also popular, as per state or federal regulations. Waterfowl are abundant from September through November and shorebirds arrive in early May; grouse, deer, wolves and black bears also live here. The hunter-style cabin has four single wooden bunks for up to four people, a table, benches and a wood stove that heats the cabin and can also be used for cooking. An outhouse with a pit toilet is provided. Water is not supplied; a small stream north of the cabin should be treated or boiled before drinking, and guests are encouraged to bring their own. Bring sleeping bags and pads, a cook stove and cooking gear, towels, food and clothing, fire starter and garbage bags. Firewood is generally provided, but not guaranteed, and a broom, dust pan, axe and splitting maul are typically available though they may be missing or damaged.
