Angels Landing: Spring (Hikes on March 1 -- May 31)

Angels Landing is a narrow sandstone fin standing above the floor of Zion Canyon, in Zion National Park near Hurricane, Utah. Views from the route look down several hundred feet of red and cream cliff to a green valley floor, where the river threads through cottonwoods and the trail below shows as a line of tight switchbacks cut into the slope. The approach follows the canyon bottom on a wide, hard-packed path among riverside trees before it climbs. Higher up the ground turns to bare slickrock and stepped ledges along an exposed spine, with drops on both sides and only scattered pines and shrubs rooted in the rock. One photograph shows those ledges and the surrounding rims under snow. The listing is a National Park Service permit covering hikes on the route between March 1 and May 31.
