Chain of Lakes Recreation Site - Holter Lake

Day use at the Chain of Lakes Recreation Site on Holter Lake, part of the Chain of Lakes, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The entrance is marked by a low panel sign reading Holter Lake Recreation Site, Western Montana District, set in mown grass beside a pale split-rail fence. Behind it the land rises into open, tan, grass-covered hills with a single pine on the crest and a few scattered conifers along the draw. There is no shade at the sign itself; the sky in the photo is flat and overcast.
