Dirty John Shooting Range

Dirty John Shooting Range is a day-use shooting range in the National Forests in North Carolina, managed by the USDA Forest Service. The range sits at the back of a broad gravel and dirt lot, with wooded slopes rising on either side. An open-sided timber shelter with a metal roof covers a line of wooden shooting benches on a concrete pad, and more benches stand out in the open beyond the roofline, one of them a low L-shaped table. A guardrail runs along one side of the firing line, and posted boards are mounted under the shelter. Banks of bare red earth are pushed up across the far end of the range and in the grass beside it. The surrounding forest is mixed bare hardwood and standing pine, with low ridges visible in the distance.
