Fossil Creek Wild and Scenic River

Fossil Creek is a Wild and Scenic River in the Coconino National Forest in Arizona, managed by the USDA Forest Service. The photographs show a desert canyon of dry brush-covered slopes and layered rock ridges, with graded dirt access lots and trailheads spread along the road above the creek — one of them signed Sally May — information boards at the pull-outs and a small stucco restroom building at one of the lots. Down in the canyon the water runs bright turquoise, spilling over travertine ledges in a broad curtain into a deep pool with dense green growth crowding the banks and the rock stained orange where the water flows. The area maps posted at the access points show foot trails running from the road down to the creek, the waterfall, the flume and the old dam.
