New experience

Friendship Park is a day-use area on Granger Lake, managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. A timber entrance sign at the roadside carries the park name, the lake name and the Corps of Engineers insignia, standing in green grass beside a wire fence and a few bare trees. Aerial photos show a broad, flat, closely mown field running out to the shoreline, with only a small stand of trees near the water's edge and no other shade. A cluster of roofed picnic shelters is set in a line along the top of the bank, just above a narrow strip of pale sand and the open water beyond. The far shore is a long, low line of trees under a wide sky.
