Lassen Volcanic National Park Wilderness Permits
Hosted by National Park Service
New experience
Wilderness travel in Lassen Volcanic National Park, managed by the National Park Service. The photographs range from forest floor to open volcanic slope. Creeks run clear and fast over cobbles through stands of conifer, in one frame past patches of old snow and a tilted slab of rock beside stone steps. Wildflowers appear in several images: orange and yellow columbine among green foliage in shade, and clumps of yellow blooms on an open slope beneath a moss-covered outcrop. Higher ground is largely bare. A trail edged with stacked stone traverses a loose pumice and cinder slope, scattered low pines along it and hazy country far below, and a broad grey volcanic peak streaked with snow stands above forested ridges and a jagged rock spire. Other frames show forest that has burned, with blackened standing trunks, fallen and cut logs, and open bare ground along the path.
