New experience

A Christmas tree cutting permit for the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, managed by the USDA Forest Service. The photographs show open ponderosa pine country: rolling hills of cured tan grass with pines standing singly and in loose groups, and heavier timber filling the draws and ridgelines behind. Two-track dirt roads run across the grass, and the ground beneath the trees is bare needle litter and dry stems. Other images show visitors at work in that same grassland, cutting small pines by hand saw and dragging the felled trees clear. The trees being taken are young and open-branched, roughly head-height to about twice that.
