Self-Guided Museum Tour
Hosted by Bureau of Land Management
New experience
Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum is a museum focusing on Ancestral Puebloan, Native American, and historic cultures in the Four Corners region. It is also headquarters for visitors traveling to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. The museum holds permanent exhibits on archaeology, local history, and Native American cultures, along with rotating special exhibits and events, educational resources for teachers and families, and a research library of archaeology and anthropology resources. Its research collection holds almost 4 million artifacts and records from archaeological projects in Southwest Colorado, and internships are offered for enrolled and recently graduated college students. Two 12th-century archaeological sites sit just outside the museum; ask about visiting these pueblos. There is also a picnic area and a half-mile nature trail to Dominguez and Escalante Pueblos.
