Steamtown National Historic Site Tours

Steamtown National Historic Site is an industrial heritage site dedicated to interpreting the role that steam railroad transportation - and the people who made it happen - played within America's Industrial Revolution. The site sits in the center of downtown Scranton, in northeastern Pennsylvania, just a short two-hour drive or bus ride from major metropolitan areas such as New York City and Philadelphia. There is no passenger rail service available to or from Steamtown NHS, including Amtrak. Steamtown NHS is located within the center of the once bustling Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad City Yard. The Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad was a major player in the transportation of the anthracite coal that once fueled America's industrial revolution, and the museum complex incorporates the remaining segments of the roundhouse and locomotive repair shops. Guided programs are offered daily. Train rides are offered on a scheduled seasonal basis, including short rides within the railroad yard and longer excursion trains that travel to distant communities beyond the park.
