Sumac Creek Shooting Range

Sumac Creek Shooting Range is in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Georgia, managed by the USDA Forest Service. A long open-sided shelter with a green metal roof and heavy timber posts covers the firing line, which stands on a poured concrete pad edged with gravel and wood chips. The benches and rests along the line are labeled by distance: ten yards, marked hand guns only, then twenty-five, fifty and one hundred yards. Downrange are bare earth berms with green mesh target frames set in front of them, backed by a wooded hillside of bare hardwoods. Away from the line, a gravel path runs through green summer woods past a wooden picnic table and a green metal refuse bin to a gravel parking area among the trees.
