Visitor Center Explore the USS Arizona Today Tour
Hosted by National Park Service
New experience
A virtual reality program at the Pearl Harbor visitor center in Hawaii, part of the Pearl Harbor Narrated Multimedia Tours & Virtual Reality Center. Its computer-generated scenes are set underwater and move over a submerged hull — silt-covered plating and collapsed structure resting on the seabed, gun barrels lying out across the deck, and the underside of the water's surface overhead. Bracket-shaped reticles appear in some frames, marking points on the wreck the viewer can hold on for a closer look. Strands of green weed and small clusters of pink and purple growth stand on the rock and metal, while other frames pull back into dim green water where only the outline of the hull is still visible. The program is watched from a railed outdoor deck under the visitor center's canopy, set with rows of stands each holding a headset, with lawn, palms and the harbor beyond the rail.
