Visitor Center Unlimited Narrated Multimedia Tour
Hosted by National Park Service
New experience
A narrated multimedia tour at the Pearl Harbor visitor center in Hawaii, part of the Pearl Harbor Narrated Multimedia Tours & Virtual Reality Center. Seen from the air, the site sits on a point of land: low white buildings with broad curved roofs, open lawns and palms threaded by curving concrete walkways, a rock-armored shoreline, and a floating dock running out into the harbor. Indoors the galleries hold a glass case with a star-shaped gold medal hung on a pale blue ribbon, a hangar-like room where recovered aircraft wreckage stands beside a torpedo and a small bomb set out on the floor with interpretive panels, and a long tabletop model of a carrier deck lined with rows of model aircraft. A second case, titled Fulfilling Our Nation's Promise, is framed by rows of black-and-white portraits of servicemembers and holds artifacts, photographs and a small screen. Archival photography is shown as well, including a burning warship with its mast canted over through heavy smoke. Outside, a tall freestanding white panel cut through with irregular openings stands on an open plaza beside shaded, open-sided pavilions.
