New experience

A virtual reality program at the Pearl Harbor visitor center in Hawaii, part of the Pearl Harbor Narrated Multimedia Tours & Virtual Reality Center. Its computer-generated scenes place the viewer on the deck of a battleship, on planked timber running past capstans, bollards, heavy chain and a canvas awning rigged overhead. The reconstruction shows the grey superstructure in detail: turrets with triple gun barrels trained out over the bow, secondary guns in open mounts, a latticed tripod mast carrying platforms and a crane, and wire rigging strung above the deck. Views past the rail take in the harbor, other ships at their moorings, aircraft in the distance and dark smoke drifting over the far shore. A title card in the same set reads Pearl Harbor Virtual Reality Center over an archival photograph of warships and aircraft.
