Whiteoak Sink Group Hiking Permits

Whiteoak Sink lies within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, managed by the National Park Service. The photographs show a narrow dirt footpath threading a deciduous forest whose floor is covered almost continuously in pale blue and lavender wildflowers, with broad green leaves, ferns and moss-covered fallen logs between the trunks. The canopy is only partly leafed out, so light reaches the ground everywhere. Hikers appear on the trail in small groups, several stopped with cameras and trekking poles; the path itself is single-file width, packed earth, running on a gentle slope through the flowers.
