New experience

A permit covering overnight backcountry travel in Yellowstone National Park, administered by the National Park Service. The photographs range across the park's backcountry. Sagebrush flats run out below a flat-topped butte, where a rider leads a loaded packhorse; grassy hillsides scattered with juniper and pine carry a dirt trail traversing toward a green valley floor; two hikers with packs ford a wide, shallow, cobbled river; and a still pond mirrors a forested ridge as backpackers pass along the bank. Other images show a kayak on open water, with a wooded shoreline and a snow-covered range behind it, and a small tent pitched on grass below a rock outcrop.
