Yosemite National Park Wilderness Permits
Hosted by National Park Service
New experience
A wilderness permit for the backcountry of Yosemite National Park, managed by the National Park Service. The photographs range from forest floor to bare rock. One looks across a wide grass meadow with a river braiding through it, lodgepole forest on the far side and rounded granite domes and darker peaks behind. Others take in lakes held in granite: slabs and scattered conifers reflected in still water at dusk under a pink sky, one shore lit gold late in the day with the moon above the ridge, another basin filling with low cloud. In one, sunlight comes through the trunks of a pine stand onto open grassy ground with the water just beyond. Higher up the ground is stripped to polished granite. A single large boulder sits on open slab beneath a cliff-walled peak under heavy cloud, and elsewhere a snowfield banked against a wall of grey rock melts out into a pool of pale turquoise. Low pink flowers grow along the turf at the edge of one tarn, with pale boulders standing in the shallows and talus slopes running down to the water.
