New experience
Photographs of Zion's canyoneering terrain show tall, tightly spaced sandstone slots where sunlight reaches only the upper walls and turns them orange while the floor of loose white cobbles stays in shade. The rock is layered and cross-bedded, sculpted into fins, ribs and overhangs. Other images move onto open slickrock: a rope laid down a rounded sandstone bowl with a figure silhouetted at the lip against clear sky, and red rock rims with pines and junipers rooted along their edges. Elsewhere ropes drop through narrow polished channels and past a wedged boulder into a sandy floor. Zion National Park is managed by the National Park Service.
