Zion National Park Overnight Climbing Permits

Overnight climbing in Zion National Park, managed by the National Park Service. The photographs show long routes on sandstone walls. Climbers move up vertical and overhanging red and gold faces, following cracks and corners, standing in ladder-style aid slings and trailing rope, with a rack of cams and slings hanging from their harnesses. Views from above look down slabs past fixed rope to green brush and talus and, in one frame, a road at the base; a view from a distance shows two climbers strung out on an expanse of red wall with their bags hanging below them. One image is a portaledge, a red platform rigged to the wall well above the ground with its occupant lying on it among coiled ropes. Another is taken at the base, where a climber loads a haul bag on pavement with cams, slings, rope and shoes laid out around him and a banded cliff standing over the lot.
